Giftedness Test: are you a high-potential adult (gifted)?

High intellectual potential (giftedness), sometimes called being a "zebra", cannot be reduced to a high IQ: it is a particular cognitive and emotional way of functioning. This test explores five frequently described markers: tree-like thinking (fast, teeming), hyper-emotionality, intellectual hunger, sensory hyperstimulation and the feeling of being out of step. It does not replace a psychometric assessment (WAIS) carried out by a psychologist: it helps you put words on the way you function and decide whether an in-depth assessment makes sense for you.

In the article that follows, I explore high intellectual potential. If you recognise yourself in this theme, I designed a giftedness (HPI) test that helps you take stock of the signs of a gifted profile. It comes with a guide to extend your reflection beyond the results.

What the test measures

Take the test: Giftedness (high potential) test → — If you wonder whether the way you function relates to giftedness, this structured test gives you a first reference point.
  • Fast, teeming, networked thinking that jumps from one idea to another through associations.
  • Intensity and depth of emotions, strong empathy, affective reactivity.
  • Insatiable curiosity, need to understand, thirst for learning.
  • Heightened sensitivity to stimuli (noise, light, textures) and rapid saturation.
  • The impression of thinking or feeling differently from others, boredom, loneliness.

How to interpret your score

The result reads as an intensity, not as a diagnosis:

  • Few giftedness markers: You show few markers typical of high potential. This takes nothing away from your qualities: giftedness is one way of functioning among others, neither better nor worse.
  • Some giftedness markers: You show some markers of gifted functioning, without them being systematic. The profile deserves to be explored, especially if these traits affect your daily life.
  • Marked giftedness markers: You show many markers of high potential: fast thinking, emotional intensity, intellectual hunger and a feeling of being out of step. A psychometric assessment (WAIS) can confirm this and, above all, help you live better with this way of functioning.
