Shehnaaz Gill's Relationship History: The Bond Nobody Officially Confirmed
In the piece that follows, I look at Shehnaaz Gill's most talked-about bond — the "SidNaaz"
pairing with Sidharth Shukla — and what it reveals about the gap between how intensely a
relationship reads to an audience and how the people involved actually describe it. If you've
ever found yourself trying to name what an undefined relationship actually is, I designed a
situationship test
that helps you assess where an ambiguous connection really stands. I also wrote a book on how
these patterns form, Understanding Your Attachment Style,
if you'd like to go further. And if it's your own current relationship you want a clearer read
on, ScanMyLove
analyzes what your conversations actually reveal.
Shehnaaz Gill's Relationship History: The Bond Nobody Officially Confirmed
Shehnaaz Gill built a national career on a paradox: the most talked-about relationship of her
public life has never been confirmed as a relationship at all. She entered India's biggest
reality show as a regional Punjabi singer and actress, and left it as one half of a pairing
the country still refers to by a single nickname. Understanding her love life means
understanding how an unconfirmed bond can dominate a public narrative for years — and what
that says about how audiences read intimacy on screen.
From Punjabi cinema to a national stage
Gill was born on 27 January 1994 in Chandigarh and studied commerce at Lovely Professional
University. She built her early career in Punjabi-language entertainment, starting with the
2015 music video "Shiv Di Kitaab" and her film debut in Sat Shri Akaal England (2017) —
a regional foothold, not yet a national one.
That changed in September 2019, when she entered Bigg Boss 13 (the Hindi-language edition,
broadcast nationally on Colors TV) as an already-recognized contestant. She finished the
season as runner-up in February 2020, but her real prize was reputational: her housemates
named her "the entertainer of the season," a title that came with nomination immunity and, more
lastingly, with national visibility she had not had before.
Performing openness on camera
Reality formats like Bigg Boss reward contestants who let their emotional reactions show in
real time — laughter, tears, conflict, affection, all visible to a live audience for months.
Gill's run was defined by exactly that kind of visible, unguarded emotional register. It is
worth naming as a general pattern, distinct from what it says about any one contestant: a
format built around round-the-clock cameras does not just capture a person's relationships, it
actively shapes how the audience interprets them, often reading far more certainty into an
on-screen bond than the participants themselves have ever stated off camera.
SidNaaz: a bond the public named, never confirmed by either party
The single relationship most associated with Shehnaaz Gill's public image is her bond with
fellow contestant Sidharth Shukla, who won that same season of Bigg Boss 13. Fans and Indian
entertainment media coined a portmanteau nickname for the pairing, "SidNaaz," which by 2020 had
become an identity of its own — reused, for instance, as a hashtag on the music video "Bhula
Dunga," released in March 2020, in which the two starred together. That single video crossed
30 million views within four days and became one of the most-commented videos worldwide at the
time, a scale of public attention that had little precedent for either performer.
Several more collaborations followed — "Shona Shona," "Dil Ko Karaar Aaya," "Keh Gayi Sorry,"
"Kurta Pajama," and "Fly" (2021) — each one extending the pairing's life well past the show
that created it. Gill herself described their connection in terms that stayed close to the
show's own frame: "he was my everything in Bigg Boss 13," she said, a statement about the
intensity of the bond, not a confirmation of its romantic status.
What "SidNaaz" actually confirms — and what it doesn't
No public statement from either Gill or Shukla ever confirmed a romantic relationship. What is
documented is a close, camera-visible bond that started inside a competitive reality format and
continued afterward through joint creative projects. That gap — between what an audience
decided a pairing meant and what the two people involved actually said about it — is itself the
more interesting pattern here, and not one unique to this pairing: reality TV routinely produces
bonds that read as romance to viewers precisely because the format offers no other vocabulary
for sustained on-screen closeness. Calling a bond a couple because it looks like one is a common
way that ambiguous connections get flattened into a story neither party asked for.
September 2021: a documented loss
Sidharth Shukla died on 2 September 2021, at age 40, after a heart attack. Reports at the time
included a secondary detail from his trainer, who said that roughly two months before his death
Shukla had mentioned bloating that he attributed to steroid use — a third-party account, not an
established medical cause, and treated here as exactly that.
His death is a documented fact. What is not documented, and what this article does not
speculate about, is how Shehnaaz Gill personally experienced it. No verified public statement
from her — about grief, therapy, or how she processed the loss — was available for this piece.
That absence is worth naming rather than filling in: audiences often assume they know how a
public figure grieves an unconfirmed partner, simply because the bond itself was so visible.
Mourning someone who was never officially "yours"
is its own recognized experience, distinct from grieving a confirmed relationship, and it is not
this article's place to decide which version applies to her.
Rebuilding a career in the public eye
Gill's filmography since 2021 shows a deliberate widening from regional to national cinema:
Honsla Rakh (2021, filmed before Shukla's death), then Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023,
opposite Salman Khan — her first major Hindi mainstream release), Thank You for Coming (2023),
and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (2024). She was named to Times' "Most Desirable Women" lists
in 2019 and 2020, and picked up recognition at the Pinkvilla Screen and Style Icons Awards in
2023 and 2024. Her upcoming work includes Ikk Kudi (2025), the first film she is producing
herself, along with Ishqnama (2026) and Singh vs Kaur 2.
No relationship has been publicly confirmed by Gill since 2021. That is a statement about
available public record, not a claim about her private life — the two are not the same thing,
and treating an absence of confirmed news as proof of anything more is exactly the kind of
inference this article is deliberately avoiding.
What the SidNaaz story teaches about reading real relationships
The durability of "SidNaaz" as a search term and a media reference — years after the show ended
and after Shukla's death — says less about any confirmed romance and more about how strongly
audiences want ambiguous bonds resolved into a familiar shape: a couple, a love story, a loss.
It is a useful case study in a broader relationship-psychology pattern: intensity of connection
and confirmed romantic status are two different things, and conflating them is one of the more
common ways people misread their own relationships, not just celebrities'. A friendship that
feels like "everything," in Gill's own words, does not need to be relabeled as a romance to be
taken seriously — and the reverse mistake, projecting romantic certainty onto a bond neither
party has named that way, is a pattern worth recognizing off screen as much as on it.

FAQ
Were Shehnaaz Gill and Sidharth Shukla actually a couple?
No public statement from either of them ever confirmed a romantic relationship. Their bond,
known publicly as "SidNaaz," began during Bigg Boss 13 and continued through several joint
music videos, but the documented record describes a close, camera-visible connection — not a
confirmed romance.
What happened to Sidharth Shukla?
Sidharth Shukla, winner of Bigg Boss 13, died on 2 September 2021 at age 40 after a heart
attack. Reports at the time noted a secondary, unofficial detail — his trainer's account of
recent bloating attributed to steroid use — but this was not established as a medical cause.
What is Shehnaaz Gill doing now?
Since 2021, Gill has expanded from regional Punjabi cinema into national Hindi film, with
releases including Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023), Thank You for Coming (2023), and
Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video (2024). She is producing her upcoming film Ikk Kudi (2025)
and has Ishqnama (2026) and Singh vs Kaur 2 announced.
In brief: Shehnaaz Gill's public love life centers on one unresolved question: whether "SidNaaz," her widely-discussed bond with the late Sidharth Shukla, was ever a confirmed romantic relationship at all. It wasn't, by either party's own public statements — and that gap between public certainty and private silence outlived the reality show that created it, through Shukla's death in 2021 and into Gill's national film career today.
