Depression Self-Assessment: Evaluate Your Symptoms of Anxiety & Low Mood
In brief: This screening test assesses the intensity of depressive symptoms over the past two weeks across 4 categories: mood (sadness, discouragement), anhedonia (loss of interest and pleasure), cognitive symptoms (self-devaluation, guilt, concentration difficulties), and somatic symptoms (sleep, appetite, energy). It is inspired by reference clinical criteria (e.g., PHQ-9). It is a SCREENING tool, NOT a diagnostic one: only a healthcare professional can diagnose depression. If you are experiencing significant distress or suicidal thoughts, contact 3114 (national, free, 24/7 hotline) or 15 immediately.
Passing Sadness or Depression?
Feeling down is normal and transient. Clinically significant depressive symptoms are present when low mood and/or loss of pleasure persist almost every day for at least two weeks, impacting daily life (sleep, energy, concentration, relationships). This test helps to gauge the intensity of these symptoms.

The 4 Dimensions Assessed
Depressed mood: sadness, discouragement, hopelessness. Anhedonia: loss of interest and pleasure. Cognitive symptoms: self-devaluation, guilt, difficulties with concentration and decision-making. Somatic symptoms: sleep and appetite disturbances, fatigue, psychomotor slowing.
Important: This Test Does Not Diagnose
No online questionnaire can provide a diagnosis. A high score is not a condemnation, and a low score does not rule anything out. The goal is to help you put words to your experience and decide whether to seek professional help. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, call 3114 (free, 24/7) or 15 immediately — you are not alone.
