Depression Test: Self-Assessment of Symptoms (Anxiety & Mood)
TL;DR: This screening test assesses the intensity of depressive symptoms over the past two weeks across 4 families: mood (sadness, discouragement), anhedonia (loss of interest and pleasure), cognitive symptoms (self-devaluation, guilt, concentration), and somatic symptoms (sleep, appetite, energy). It is inspired by reference clinical criteria (PHQ-9 type). It is a SCREENING tool, NOT a diagnosis: only a healthcare professional can diagnose depression. If you are experiencing significant distress or suicidal thoughts, contact your local emergency services immediately — in the US, call or text 988; in the UK, call Samaritans on 116 123; elsewhere, reach out to your local crisis line. You are not alone.
Passing sadness or depression?
Feeling down is normal and transient. We talk about clinically significant depressive symptoms when low mood and/or loss of pleasure persist nearly every day for at least two weeks, with an impact on daily life (sleep, energy, concentration, relationships). This test helps gauge the intensity of these symptoms.

The 4 dimensions assessed
Depressive mood: sadness, discouragement, hopelessness. Anhedonia: loss of interest and pleasure. Cognitive symptoms: self-devaluation, guilt, difficulty concentrating and deciding. Somatic symptoms: sleep and appetite disturbances, fatigue, slowing down.
Important: this test does not diagnose
No online questionnaire makes a diagnosis. A high score is not a sentence, and a low score rules nothing out. The goal is to help you put words to what you feel and decide whether to seek help. If you have suicidal thoughts, contact your local emergency services or a crisis line immediately (US: call or text 988; UK: Samaritans 116 123) — you are not alone.
